Future Celtics

Not counting a trade, which would not be surprising, here is a list of 2011's free agents that the Celtics should be targeting.  As you may notice I have left off several of the bigger names that are going to be free agents (Tyson Chandler, Nene, Jason Richardson, Dalembert).  Celtics just don't have the money to get these guys and there is no point in even thinking about it.

Nazr Mohammed - A big man who can take up space.  He doesn't bring much else, but he should be cheap and a real center is hard to come by.  As we saw this season and post season, we need a real center to compete as we continually got abused on the boards by opposing bigs.  It also will give KG much needed rest as he had to bang too much with opposing centers.
Anthony Parker - A swingman with range and who can play defense.  He can give Paul Pierce and Ray Allen greatly needed rest as well provide some offense to the dismal second unit.  Parker is not great at creating his own shot and is a much better catch and shoot player.
JJ Barea - Delonte West is a great back up pg, but he still can not be trusted to be healthy for a whole season.  JJ Barea is always an offensive threat, can play on first or second unit, and would give the Celtics a much needed play maker who creates his own shots.  Although he is short, 6'0 on a good day, he makes up for it on the defensive end with his strength.  Barea has roots in the area as he went to Northeastern University in Boston.  I do have a hard time believing Mavs will let him walk though.
Caron Butler - Another swingman who will give Pierce much needed rest.  He can score, rebound, pass and has decent defense.  He is also a play maker who can create his own shot.  Again, something that was much needed on the Celtics team this year.  He is a injury risk though, as he hasn't played 70 games since 04-05.  He also might be a little too much money for the Celtics.
Kenyon Martin - A little scary considering his injury history, but you have to love Kmart and KG on the same team.  If both are healthy, which is a big if, there should be a defensive stopper at all times on the court for the Celtics.
Chuck Hayes - This is my favorite FA and who I think the Celtics should be willing to pay the most money.  He is one of the top defending big mans in the NBA, can legitimately cover all 4s and most 5s, and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands.  Of everyone listed he would give the KG the most rest as he could be trusted on the court in almost any situation.
Kris Humphries - Players putting up good numbers on bad teams during a contract year is not something that should always be trusted.  While Humphries could easily be a one year wonder (more like half year), he looked like a solid player during that stretch.  At his best he is what I wished Big Baby was.  Pure energy and hustle who doesn't force shots and spends almost all his energy crashing the boards and creating second chance points.  At his worst, which was everything pre-2010, he forces shots, makes bad decisions on offensive side of the ball with and without the ball, and is a sub par defender.  If you can get him cheap he is worth the risk, if someone else tries to outbid then let him go.
Carl Landry - Carl Landry game is pretty one sided.  He does not play defense well or board up, but has a good offensive game and would be a great person for the 2nd unit.  He can create his own offense in the post and can hit a jumper.  I also wonder what would happen if he practiced everyday with KG.  He is tenacious on the offensive side of the ball and attacks against much better and stronger opponents.  If he was able to bring that type of energy to his defense he would be a very solid player who probably wouldn't be switching teams every year.
Leandra Barbosa - Barbosa could bring some instant offense to the Celtics second unit and play the 1 and the 2.  He is one of the faster players in the NBA and can the stretch the floor with his shot.  He does have questionable decision making as he hoists up too many ill advised shots as well.  He also does not have good defense and gambles too much going for steals.  As bad offensively as Celtics 2nd unit was this year, I would take him, but he is not at the top of the list.  This is all of course if he even does opt out of his contract.
Earl Clark - One of the lesser known names on the list.  I think the Celtics could probably get him extremely cheap and he has the potential to be an extremely capable role player.  So far he has been a disappointment through his career but is still young and has shown flashes of  what he is capable of.  He is 6'10 225 and can handle the ball like a point gaurd, he can attack the boards and create 2nd chance points, and he can take the ball to the rack.  This is all of course when is playing aggressive, which is not all the time.  A veteran team like the Celtics could bring the best out of him.  At the young age of 23 he is well worth the small gamble and could end up being part of the new look Celtics after Ainge does finally decide to blow up the team.
Brian Scalabrine - The always underrated Scalabrine.  He is one of the best additions you can make to a team.  He is as talented as Lebron, humble as Rose, and as much a defensive intimidator as Dwight Howard.  We can only hope of the 30 offers that come into his agent he chooses the Celtics.

Now all Celtics nation can do is hope both O'Neals retire, they let Big Baby walk, and they don't match a crazy offer for Jeff Green if another GM gets too eager.
