Rondo's Game Saved by the Elbow

I don't know if there is a lot of boxing fans still out there, but not too recently a boxer named Yuri Foreman was KOed in the 9th round by Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium. Foreman was dominated from the opening bell to the last. What saved Foreman's reputation was that he tore his meniscus and stretched ligaments in his knee in the 7th round and kept fighting through it even though he could hardly move. He went from being an overrated boxer on his way down to creating thousands of fans and being called a warrior. I am not saying he does not deserve respect, what he did was admirable and did show heart, but you can't just forget everything that happened beforehand.

The same thing happened to Rajon Rondo last night. He was playing a horrible game before his injury. He was committing turnover after turnover, throwing lazy and dangerous passes that even if completed would not have accomplished much. He also passed up at least 2 lay ups under the basket and instead kicked it out for a contested shot and a long jumper. At the point he got hurt, I would have rather had West in there regardless. Rondo was 1/5 with 2 points, 10 assists, and 5 TOs before that play. And his stats still do not show how bad he was, as the passed up open lay ups and horrible passes that got saved by teammates are not accounted for. Again, I am not saying he does not deserve respect for coming back to play while being in obvious pain and fighting through it, but let us not forget what a poor game he was having before the injury. I do hope he is okay and able to play though, because when playing right Rondo is still a mismatch in Boston's favor. Having no depth at pg besides an injury plagued Delonte West does not help either.

On a side note, that was a dirty play by Wade. There is no way around it.
